The large district educates around 24,900 students who are spread across 20 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, a K-8 school, four comprehensive high schools, one special education high school, an independent study high school, and a continuation high school.
The district has developed a reputation for excellence, particularly in the high schools, which are consistently named to “America’s Best High School” lists by U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, and other top news organizations. Twenty-four schools have been designated as California Distinguished Schools and 17 are California Gold Ribbon School.
Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District recently saw the completion of a $600 million new school construction and facilities modernization project.
The schools boast new auditoriums, classrooms, lunchrooms, media centers, playground equipment, labs, and sports fields and are proud to have all classrooms wired with the latest in technology, including interactive whiteboards and distributed projectors and sound systems.
Students in the PYLUSD have plenty of amazing education opportunities, such as CareerLink programs in business, engineering and manufacturing, technology, medical sciences, law, and digital media, as well as multiple Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes. Currently, high schools have an impressive 96% graduation rate. (California’s graduation rate is 86%, while the national rate is 84.6%.)

Parks and Recreation in Yorba Linda
Yorba Linda is home to 30 different parks, giving residents endless opportunities for outdoor fun in the sun.
Box Canyon Park is considered by many locals to be a hidden gem, thanks to the gorgeous mountain scenery and the impressive children’s playground.
Designed to resemble a pirate’s ship, the playground features something for all ages, including interactive panels, ramps, swings, and bridges. This is also a good spot for watching wildlife, both on the ground (bunnies and lizards) and in the air (hawks).
Hurless Barton Park is another great option that also serves as the site of the Summer Adventure Playground Program and the live performances at the large amphitheater. The park also has a large children’s playground, charcoal grills, and picnic shelters and tables.
Yorba Linda residents can also access Chino Hills State Park via the Rimcrest Trail Head entrance. The 14,173-acre state park extends down from the Santa Ana Mountains, encompassing Yorba Linda and serving as a major botanical habitat reserve for local and migrating wildlife.
The park has miles of trails, ranging from easy to more complex, that are ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Traveling the trails is the perfect way to get a glimpse at the wide array of flora and wildlife, including more than 200 species of mammals and birds.
Animals that call Chino Hills State Park home include bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes, raccoons, possums, deer, skunks, and squirrels.
Yorba Regional Park is another outdoor option that boasts 140 acres of trails, lakes, and more. Here, visitors can fish for trout or take a leisurely ride on a swan pedal boat around one of the multiple lakes.
The park includes softball diamonds, multiple children’s playgrounds, and picnic sites with charcoal grills.
Weather in Yorba Linda
Residents of Yorba Linda can expect to have plenty of fun in the sun. As an added bonus, the sunshine will rarely be interrupted by rain, as the city only averages 15 inches of rain a year. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that snow doesn’t fall in Yorba Linda.
The annual high temperature is 77.1°F, though the temperature often hits 86°F or more between June and August. The annual low temperature is 53.3°F, although it may dip as low as 45°F in January and February.
The summer months tend to be short, while the cooler winter months last a bit longer and are often accompanied by clouds.
